Gucci Horsebit 1955 Size Comparisons

It’s really hard to tell what size you’re actually getting when shopping preloved, half the time sellers don’t even mention whether it’s the small or medium, and if you’ve never tried the bag on in person, how are you meant to know? So, in the words of Bethenny Frankel, I’ve done the Lord’s work and headed to Bond Street.

The Gucci Horsebit 1955 in both small and medium currently retails for £2,400, but on the preloved market you’re looking at around £1,600 a serious saving once you know which size suits you best.

Annoyingly, both sizes seem to cost about the same on the preloved market, the small is only slightly cheaper, mainly because the medium is the more popular choice. That said, the small does come with an extra shoulder strap in Gucci’s iconic webbing, which is probably why there isn’t a bigger price gap between the two.

In my personal opinion, I think get the medium, it’s more versatile. The small is great if money is no object, but the medium is smart enough for the evening on the shoulder and big enough during the day as a crossbody.

What does it fit?

The medium easily carries everything: your full makeup bag, phone, wallet, keys, and you could probably squeeze in a cardigan or even a pair of flats. The small fits less, but still holds all the essentials you actually need for the day: think phone, purse, makeup bits, and sunglasses.
