How I Made £2,437.10 Selling on Vinted (and Probably Spent Double That…)
Let me just say it — I love Vinted. I love it so much I should probably delete the app (but let’s be honest, I won’t). What started as a little “I guess I could upload this” and “Oh I love that…would you accept £15” has turned into a bit of an obsession. Yes, that is a scroll of the many many items I have bought.
But, I’ve also now sold over £2,437.10 worth of clothing and accessories on Vinted, and while I’m very proud of that number, I’ve almost certainly spent double that on the app - let’s be real, I didn’t transfer it into my bank account. White Summer dresses from Cos, & Other Stories, Reiss, Mango, Arket…Zara and Skims Tops as worn by Molly Mae. Add to frickin basket.
Honestly, I think I’d delete Instagram before I ever delete Vinted. That little beige-blue app has me in a chokehold — and I don’t even mind.
But over the last year, I’ve learned a few things about how to actually sell on Vinted, and not just buy every pair of white Ralph Lauren trousers or cardigan the algorithm dangles in front of me. If you’re curious how to turn your wardrobe clear-out into real cash (to fund your next Zara midi dress, obviously), here are my honest tips:
Quick shout out to the Vinted Product team… the upload and shopping process is SEAMLESS.
1. Photos Matter More Than You Think
Think bright, natural light. A clean background. No clutter. People aren’t just buying the item — they’re buying the vibe. The more your photos feel editorial (or at least scroll-stopping), the more likely your item will sell fast and for a decent price. I always try to photograph pieces hanging up or worn and if you can steam it, steam it. Crumpled = criminal.
2. List Everything
— Even the £3 T-shirt
I know, it feels pointless. But trust me: Vinted loves an active profile. The more you list, the more visibility you get. That £3 tee might not make you rich, and it is such an effort to walk to the post office.. for £3 really?! (let’s be real you probably spent that on a coffee on the walk to the post office or InPost but it can nudge your whole profile higher in the algorithm. Plus, someone might bundle it with other pieces — and suddenly you’ve made a £20 sale. Wooohoooo. Also those £3 sales add up!
3. Know Your Brands
High-end high street sells. I’m talking:
Zara (especially anything beige, white, or structured with tags or new-ish)
& Other Stories
Reiss
Ralph Lauren
Karen Millen
Mango tailoring
4. Sell in Season
Do not be tempted to wait till the end of Autumn to sell your chocolate brown coat, that you do not really wear, or black boots that you haven’t worn for two years encase you want to wear them in the next month. Buyers are buying items to wear now - you will get a quicker sale at a better price selling items people can wear now.
Listing your summer holiday dress in November… it won’t do a lot. But, save that dress and list it in July, and you could be onto a winner.
5. Describe Honestly, But be Positive
Include the condition (be honest), sizing info, and any little notes about the item (e.g. comes up short, fits more like an 8 than a 10). But you can still sell it confidently. “Worn once and in perfect condition” sounds a lot better than just “used.”
6. Don’t Be Afraid to also Buy
If you’re a seller, you’re probably also a shopper (if you aren’t - you are disciplined!) and Vinted’s algorithm is unmatched. I get recommended the BEST* Chefs kiss outfits. Cos Summer dress, beige Mango two-piece, Zara (anything!) and & Other Stories knit. I see everything I wanted last season and didn’t buy…but now I still love it and it’s two thirds of the price - amazing.
Whether you’re clearing space or creating a mini business, Vinted is one of the easiest ways to make some extra cash and discover gems you’d never pay full price for. Just don’t blame me when your postman starts commenting on how many little parcels you send and receive…(tip send it to Inpost then your other half never needs to know) Alice xx
Zara, Limited Collection.. literally like £20 RRP I think was £59.99
