How to Spot a Fake Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere 25

This is a guide on what to look out for when purchasing a Louis Vuitton Speedy 25 BANDOULIÈRE on the resale market. Note: My bag is dated 2019. This post is specifically for a Louis Vuitton Speedy 25 BANDOULIÈRE

The bag measures: L 25 x H 19 x W 15 cm/L 9.8 x H 7.4 x W 5.9 inches.

Strap Drop: 46.5 cm/18.3 inches
Strap Drop Max: 55.0 cm/21.7 inches
Removable, adjustable leather strap (drop: min. 49 cm/ 19.3 inches, max. 52 cm/20.5 inches) for shoulder or cross-body carry

1. Bag Size

The size of this bag e.g. 25 is stamped under the leather where the shoulder strap D Ring is attached to the bag. This bag comes in sizes 20, 25, 30, 35. The numbers are stamped in a very thin font (beware of thick smudgy stamping). Also, this will fade over time – don’t be alarmed if you can barely see it. It is only stamped on one side - not both.

2. Date Code

The date code is located on a leather tab. It is located under the interior pocket. It is buttoned down by Louis Vuitton hardware.

This little tab is made from the same vachetta leather as the trim and handles, but don’t expect it to match in colour. Patina is what happens as vachetta ages it darkens naturally over time. Because this tab has been kept out of direct sunlight and away from oils, it’s aged much more slowly, so it’ll look lighter. And that’s actually a good thing! A bit of uneven ageing is exactly what you want to see on an authentic bag. If every piece of leather looks perfectly matched on something that’s supposedly five years old or more… I’d be a little suspicious.

The code is stamped.

The leather tab measures 3.5cm (h) by 2.8cm (w) at the widest point and is curved. The Louis Vuitton hardware sits exactly in the middle of the curve.

MAKE SURE THE MANUFACTURE LETTERS IN THE DATE CODE MATCH THE ‘made in location’.

3. The Logo Stamp

The Louis Vuitton stamp is located on the bottom of the vachetta leather strip running up the centre of the side panel of the bag. Due to the location this is sometimes quite faint on a second hand handbag. (from being toted around town for years etc)

Look out for: Louis Vuitton lettering being too thin. (They also do this with Celine I’ve noticed)

This is embossed (never printed)

The ® sits above the LOUIS VUITTON. Perfectly centred – if you drew a line down from the R it would hit the top of the second line of the V.

The ‘L’ in LOUIS VUITTON has a short tail (bottom line of the L)

The O is perfectly round and actually appears larger to the eye than the other letters.

The top of the ‘TT’s almost touch each other. (But they don’t!! tiniest gap)

The ‘made in France’ has a lower case ‘m’. The place of manufacture has a capital.

2. STITCHING

There are 6-7 Stitches per inch (an inch is 2.5cm)

The stitching runs 2mm parallel from the edge of the leather trim.

The thread is yellow in colour (not white/or pink). Its white linen thread, dyed yellow and coated in bees wax.

The thread is at a slight angle - the left is lower and the right is higher.

The upside down kite shaped leather which secures the bag to the handles: has 4 stiches (2 cm) running along the top, 8 stiches (3cm) along the sides and 6 stiches (2.8cm) either side along the bottom. It is perfectly symmetrical and all 4 of them on the bag are identical.

Note: I’ve measured the length of the leather – not stitch to stitch.

What’s really exciting and dupes miss this!! Check out the six double stitches on the bottom left. This is also mirrored on all four leather tabs.

Pay attention to the double stitch on the handle.

The interior stitching is brown. Apart from the stitching surrounding the interior pocket zip that remains yellow.

4. The Interior Pocket

The interior pocket features no Louis Vuitton Stamp.

It is crescent moon shaped. It is not rectangular or a square. It finishes halfway down the bag.

The zipper material is brown. Most designers cover the excess with the bags interior lining. Louis Vuitton have kept it exposed running two rows of stitches along it.

The zip hardware is blank on the back.

Brown textile lining - not faux suede, not leather, not felt, but textile lining.

5. Hardware

The brass hardware is gold coloured. It does tarnish over time – so don’t worry if that’s happened to the hardware you are looking at.

I would say of all the luxury brands – in my opinion Louis Vuitton hardware is some of the flimsiest and least durable (especially the zip pulls)

1) The Double Zip

The bag features a double zip.

The zip pull looks like an H that then comes together at the bottom with the LV symbol.

When pulled together the zip pulls can seamlessly fall across one another.

The back of the zip is blank.

The interior zip is smaller, and does not feature a 5. Instead, it features the pattern below - I do not know how to explain that! So, have a look.

2) The buttons. They will be engraved with Louis Vuitton and the lettering should be fine. Fake engraving tends to look very thick and not precise.

None of the letters should be touching

Unlike on the heat stamp the O looks more like an 0 and the U looks very square.

3) The padlock. I swear everyone seems to lose the padlock and keys. I don’t know where people put them… I rarely see padlocks come with resale bags, so don’t panic if the bag you have your eye on is missing a padlock. BUT, if the one you are looking at does have one, the padlock will be shiny, but not super shiny - especially if it is preloved, all the oils from fingers will be on it. One side of the padlock has ‘LV’ and the other side ‘LOUIS VUITTON PARIS’.

4) The keys have a serial number

6. Canvas

-The Speedy BANDOULIÈRE is made up of one continuous piece of leather. Therefore, one side of your bag will be upside down.

-The Speedy 25 BANDOULIÈRE print will always be the same.

- 7 flowers alternating (4 in a circle, 3 in a diamond (quatrefoil)

- 6 flowers

- 4 Quatrefoil flowers alternating with 3 LV logos.

- 6 flowers

- 7 flowers alternating (4 in a circle, 3 in a diamond (quatrefoil)

- 6 flowers

- 4 Quatrefoil flowers alternating with 3 LV logos.

Although the colours and textures might differ, the prints are always the same.

The print is symmetrical on the opposite side (just upside down)

The "V" of the LV logo should be slightly above the L without touching the bottom of the letter "L". The monogram is not a block colour, it is slightly translucent and you can see the brown of the bag coming through.

7.The Red Glazing

This gorgeous red glaze (rivals Louboutin soles in my opinion) that edges all the leather trim usually wears off over time.. and is definitely not bright red, it is more maroon! It is not Louboutin red. A LOT of fakes have a shiny orange/brighter red.

But, this bags edging is much thicker, glossier and brighter on the handle than on the rest of the bag. Counterfeiters miss this!

8. Cross body strap

Counterfeiters are nailing Louis Vuitton fakes – let’s be honest. BUT, pay attention to the tiny, tiny details and you might be able to separate the dupe from the real deal.

Look at how all the leather comes to together around the buckle of the strap.

Notice: this piece of leather has been glued down, lined up perfectly and then flattened to give a seamless finish.

9. Paperwork

If you are lucky enough to get paperwork with your Louis Vuitton. This is how it should look. I had a few bits,

-The card is textured. It measures 7cm (h) x 8.2cm (w)

-The Louis Vuitton is raised under touch. The text is 5.2cm (w) x 0.5 cm (h)

-The miniature envelope is blank.

-The receipt envelope (to hold your paperwork) 11.5cm (h) x 22.5cm (w). Again, the card is textured, raised to touch, as is the Louis Vuitton. The text is 5.2cm (w) x 0.5 cm (h)
